Pdf Summary
GlorIA is a UGM institutional platform that uses generative AI to support clinical training in psychology through simulated written interviews with virtual patients. Its name honors the 1965 “Gloria Films,” a landmark in psychotherapy education where a real patient was filmed in sessions with Rogers, Perls, and Ellis. Unlike those recordings, GlorIA lets students actively practice, make mistakes, and repeat cases as needed.

The system is designed as a complementary tool, not a replacement for instructors or real supervised practice. It includes configurable virtual patients, turn-based clinical dialogue, a full transcript for review, and instructor feedback. A key pedagogical principle is that AI mediates the experience while human judgment remains central.

GlorIA operates within AI LAB UGM, which provides governance, ethical oversight, data protection, curricular integration, and project development. Technically, it uses orchestrated generative AI with context-augmented generation (CAG/RAG), a vector knowledge base, an adaptive state engine that models patient variables such as symptoms and resistance, and strict orchestration rules for safety and traceability.

A distinctive feature is that the virtual patient evolves causally in response to the student’s interventions, rather than simply replying to the last question. Every transition is logged for instructor review.

The platform also includes automated assessment: NLP analyzes transcripts, identifies communicative acts, maps performance to a clinical rubric, and generates evidence-based feedback that instructors calibrate before release.

Evidence from a 2025 UGM study with 52 students and 288 interactions showed statistically significant improvement across six clinical competency dimensions. Student feedback emphasized reduced fear, freedom to experiment, and better interview structure.

GlorIA has also received multicenter validation across six countries, strong satisfaction ratings, and growing academic recognition, including conference acceptances and international awards.
